Life Coaching Tip: Instead of asking yourself, “What if I fail?”, consider asking yourself instead, “What if I’m wildly successful?” It’s amazing how just one reframe can inspire you into action. That’s what mindset work is all about. Creating the inspirational thoughts that get you moving forward towards your goals and manifesting your dreams!
_______
“What if it doesn’t work out?”
That’s what my client asked while discussing an exciting business idea she had been contemplating for the past few months.
“And what if it’s wildly successful?” I offered back.
In the book, “She Means Business,” author Carrie Green writes that one of the most common reasons many people don’t move forward with their ideas is because they put the words “what” and “if” together.
Green says that when people ask themselves questions like, “What if no one likes it?” or “What if I fail?” self-doubt creeps in and holds them back.
Of course, it’s easy to see how questions like this could cause a person to overthink an idea and procrastinate—for years, or even a lifetime!
In another example, a client recently told me she was having trouble feeling inspired to act on the plan we’d created towards her goal.
When we further explored what might be going on, it was the thought, “What if it’s not possible?” that was getting in her way. It then made sense why she wasn’t feeling motivated to put forth effort towards realizing her goal, considering she wasn’t even sure achieving it was possible!
I should add that the goal this client was doubting IS absolutely possible. In fact, it’s something lots of people in the world are doing right now. It’s amazing how the primal brain will make up all sorts of unlikely scenarios to keep us from creating positive change for ourselves—leaving us spinning in place and stuck in our comfort zone.
I’m wondering if you have an innovative idea that you haven’t acted on?
Is there a dream that has been in your heart for a while now, but you’ve been using the “what if” question in a way that has kept you feeling trapped?
If so, I’d like to offer these options to help you gain some traction:
What if it was easy?
What if this is the ideal time to act?
What if it all unfolds perfectly?
What if it turns out better than you can even imagine?
And . . . What if you’re wildly successful?
It’s amazing how just one reframe can calm your fears and inspire you into action. Mindset work is all about creating inspirational thoughts that get you fired up and moving forward towards your goals, dreams, and desires.
It’s important to learn to ask yourself the RIGHT questions to ignite your passion, push your limits, and grow!
Finally, ask yourself this: “What if there is nothing serious going on here?”
I love this fun question because it offers perspective. In the big scheme of things, there’s really nothing serious going on here, right?
So, take a flippin’ step forward and do the thing already!
I’m rooting for you, sister!
