Life Coaching Tip: You can always overcome a slow start with a strong finish. There’s still time left on the clock! What if you doubled your efforts and took massive action in this fourth quarter? I encourage you to stay in belief, work steadfast on your goals, and kick some butt in the next three months!
__________
It was November 10, 2019, and the Cleveland Browns were on a four-game losing streak. They were playing at home that Sunday, and their opponents, the Buffalo Bills, were in the lead 16-12 with 5:25 left on the clock. By all accounts, it didn’t look good for the Browns.
But it was at that moment that the Browns surprised their fans and rallied, coming back with a game-winning drive that resulted in a dramatic 19-16 victory over the Bills!
Now, before I go on here, I must confess that I am not a football enthusiast…
However, as I think back to my childhood, I can still hear my father, a professional armchair quarterback, excitedly yelling at the television.
Sometimes, he’d be complaining, “Oh man, they are giving up! No, don’t give up! There’s still time left on the clock!”
When I’d hear this, I’d think, “How strange. Why would they give up before the end of the game?” And to me, it was just a game, so I really couldn’t fathom why players wouldn’t give it their all until the very end.
But other times, my dad would be elatedly shouting things like, “Oh my God, oh my God, he caught it!” or “Interception!” or “Go, go, go, go, go… touchdown!”
This is when I’d hurry over to the T.V. to watch the action unfold.
And when it was a game-winning drive, like the Browns’ win last November, I was glued to the television set just as much as my dad!
Everyone loves a comeback story, right?
Whether you are a sports fan or not, there is an important lesson to learn here. It pays to finish your fourth quarter strong!
Upset games aren’t won by skill alone. Perseverance is often the magic ticket! It’s the teams that simply don’t give up and keep believing in their dream, even when there is compelling evidence that the win is likely out of reach, that usually come up on top.
And so, now that we are entering the final quarter of the year, I encourage you to keep this in mind…
If you’re slaying your goals, on schedule, and killing it, then by all means, carry on, my friend!
But if you’re not where you want to be, remember this: You can always overcome a slow start with a strong finish!
You are unauthorized to pass over the next few months in your brain and start talking about how next year is going to be a better year! I mean, it certainly can be, but there is still time left on the clock.
It’s too soon to move on to the next game!
What if you doubled your efforts and took massive action in this fourth quarter?
What if you stayed the course and committed fully until there’s no time left on the clock?
I encourage you to stay in belief, work steadfast on your goals, and kick some butt in the next three months!
Visualize yourself on New Year’s Eve, like my dad when his team pulled out the win, jumping up and down and screaming “YEEEES! Nailed it!”
You are the comeback kid!
Seriously sister, you’ve got this!
