Life Coaching Tip: As we strive to uplevel our lives, challenges are an inevitable part of the journey. But it’s in these unexpected “plot twists” where we find our true growth. It’s in these moments that we have the chance to rise with courage, embrace change, and step into the next version of ourselves. This is how we unlock our personal power and fully embody our evolving identity.
_____________
Are you facing a challenge right now that feels insurmountable? Or perhaps a series of challenges that make you want to scream, “Are you freaking kidding me? Enough!”
Does it seem like just when you’re one step closer to your goal, something happens that knocks you ten steps back?
If so, then this message is for you.
Here’s the truth: If you’re human (and I know you are), and if you want to stretch, grow, and uplevel in this one and only life of yours (which I know you do, or you wouldn’t be reading this), then challenges will always be a part of your journey.
In this human experience, life is generally a 50/50 balancing act. This means it’s full of joyful moments of love, connection, success, and abundance.
But let’s be real, no one escapes without also facing contrasting periods of fear, disappointment, failure, and grief.
And it’s through engaging with these challenges, the tough emotions, and the obstacles that we grow, stretch, and transform into the next version of ourselves. It’s the overcoming, the becoming, that truly makes us feel ALIVE.
This week, I spoke with the amazing women in my Shine On groups about this very topic. These trailblazers have set high goals for themselves—whether it’s launching or growing businesses, upleveling careers, publishing books, losing weight, relocating, and more. Now that we’re a third of the way into the program, they’re in the thick of it!
There have been epic wins and celebrations—and we’ve savored every moment of them!
But there have also been challenges and setbacks, and feelings of self-doubt, frustration, disappointments, impatience, and shame to reckon with.
And in those moments, I told them something I’m going to share with you now: It’s in the reckoning that the sweetest, juiciest part of the journey lives.
It’s in the “plot twists” of our life where we get the opportunity to courageously rise to the challenge and become the next version of ourselves. This is how we embody our new identity. It’s how we become the person who:
- Is the assertive CEO of her thriving business
- Owns her new role with confidence
- Is a best-selling author
- Achieves her ideal weight—and keeps it off
- Boldly makes the move to relocate
- And so much more!
Our primal brain would like for us to see the challenges or plot twists as the end of the road—the result. But what if that wasn’t true? What if they were just part of the larger story of who you’re becoming?
What if the story wasn’t: “I applied for a bunch of jobs and was rejected. I guess I’m just not cut out for that next-level position.”
Instead, what if it was: “I applied for a bunch of jobs and was rejected. I guess this means it’s time to double down on self-belief and do the uncomfortable thing of reaching out to my network for new leads.”
Imagine who you’d be becoming in that plot twist.
Or what if the story wasn’t: “Every time I lose weight, I gain it right back. Why bother?”
What if it was instead: “Every time I’ve lost weight in the past, I’ve gained it back. But this time, I’m doing it differently. I’m going to explore my mindset and take a scientific approach. I’m determined to create lasting change!”
Can you feel the power in that shift?
Think about who you’d become as you finally conquered this obstacle—and how that would translate into other areas of your life.
So today, I’m asking you to reflect on the challenges you’re facing right now, and how you want to show up for them.
What stories have you been telling yourself when you’ve encountered plot twists in the past that have held you back?
Are they versions of:
- “I’m too busy.”
- “It’s not working.”
- “I’m not ready yet.”
- “Success isn’t for me.”
- “Why bother?”
- “I’m tired. I don’t have the energy.”
- “I just don’t have it in me.”
Now, I’m asking you to consider what you’re willing to let go of.
What purpose will engaging with this challenge serve in helping you step into a new, more powerful identity?
How do you want to remember this period of your life?
What will make you the proudest when you look back?
What will absolutely blow your mind when you realize what you were capable of navigating/doing?
You can’t control the 50/50 nature of life, but you can decide how you respond to it.
Every moment is a choice.
And sister, you deserve to feel the aliveness that comes from stepping into your personal power.
Find the gift in the plot twist and keep moving forward.
