Life Coaching Tip: Fun isn’t frivolous. It’s energy for your soul! If your calendar is packed with goals, obligations, and to-dos but you’re feeling drained, it might be time to ask yourself a powerful question: Where’s the delight? In this post, I share why making space for fun is not only allowed, it’s essential—and how a few intentional shifts can bring more energy, creativity, and fulfillment into your life.

Nothing makes my clients squirm like when I ask them to—gasp—make time for fun.
The women I coach are go-getters with big dreams. They’re pros at packing their calendars with activities that move them toward their work, business, money, and health goals.
But fun?
Well, that can feel frivolous, or even irresponsible.
Most of us have been conditioned to live a “checklist life.” We chase goals, hustle for worthiness, and live for the quick high we get from achievement. But the feeling is fleeting, as the to-do list never ends. It’s exhausting, and it never feels like enough.
When Mary joined the Shine On program last fall, she was right there. A successful executive, Mary was spending her “free time” serving on multiple boards and doing volunteer work.
When I asked about fun, she blinked at me and said: “Fun? My whole life, I’ve never even considered making time for fun. Not once.”
But things are different now. Mary has been systematically letting go of the obligations that drain her and intentionally creating space for what lights her up. She has begun scheduling fun, leisure, and adventure right onto her calendar.
This is what intentional living looks like.
If we’re not making room for play, connection, creativity, and pleasure, then what’s the point of all this? Fun shouldn’t be an afterthought. It’s essential for wholehearted living.
So, let me ask you, my friend . . .
Are you having any fun?
Are you consciously carving out space for play, or are you hoping it just magically happens, squeezed in between deadlines, errands, and appointments?
If you’re ready for a shift, here’s a simple, but powerful, practice:
At the start of each month, once you’ve plugged in all your must-dos on your calendar, block out space for the good stuff before the world rushes in and fills in all the gaps.
Create time for:
- One big adventure each month (something fun that takes 3+ hours)
- One small adventure each month (a quick burst of delight—under an hour)
- One “inspiration date” with yourself each week (2+ hours of whatever lights you up)
Don’t make this optional because it’s important. You’re constantly expending yourself—mentally, emotionally, creatively—and you need time to replenish your energetic reservoir. You need time to rest, refresh, and invite in creativity and new ideas.
If your first thought is: “Tracy, I don’t have time for such nonsense.”
Then, all the more reason to do it!
Because fun doesn’t drain you, it fuels you. It’s the spark that expands your capacity and realigns your spirit.
You deserve it, sister.
C’mon, have a little fun!
xo Tracy
