Life Coaching Tip: The Strategy of Pairing will help you build momentum. When you combine a task you like with one you’re not exactly excited about, it makes the “unwanted” task feel less like a chore and more enjoyable. You get to do something productive and fun at the same time, increasing the odds that you’ll want to continue.

This week, I’m back with another powerful habit-building technique: The Strategy of Pairing.
So, what exactly is pairing?
It’s simply the act of linking two activities together: one you need or want to do, and one you don’t always feel like doing.
Here’s the twist . . . it’s not a “reward” or “treat” situation. Instead, it’s about creating a dynamic duo where both activities happen together to support your goals and overall wellbeing.
The magic behind pairing is that it leverages the power of positive reinforcement without the need for external rewards. It keeps you engaged, makes the “hard” task feel more enjoyable, and creates a seamless, consistent habit loop.
Let me give you some examples to spark your creativity:
• Listen to your favorite podcast while exercising—turn your workout into a learning session or personal development time.
• Go for a walk with a friend while catching up—you’re socializing and moving your body at the same time!
• Blast your favorite playlist while cleaning or organizing—you’ll find yourself enjoying the tasks you usually dread when you turn up the jams!
• Savor your morning coffee while journaling—get cozy and connect with yourself before jumping into your day.
• Do some light stretching while watching your favorite show—multi-task and improve your flexibility as you catch up on all the latest episodes.
• Take a few deep breaths while waiting for your coffee to brew—slow down and get centered by adding a quick mindfulness practice into your morning routine.
• Plan your week while having lunch—use mealtime as a productive, yet relaxing time to organize your thoughts and schedule.
So, how can you apply this strategy to your life? Think about the tasks you’ve been putting off and consider what you can pair them with.
Now, go ahead—get creative! You’ve totally got this.
Success is right around the corner, and I can’t wait to see you blow your own mind with how much you’re capable of.
Stay strong and keep rocking those habits, my friend!
