Life Coaching Tip: Big life changes rarely start with a perfect plan or a dramatic breakthrough. More often, they begin with a single question that shifts how you see your life, your time, and what truly matters. The right question has a way of cutting through fear, obligation, and overthinking. It lands in your body, not just your mind, and suddenly, things feel different. This piece is about the kind of question that changes everything.

My last post was about not waiting to make a change.
Not waiting for January.
Not waiting for the perfect moment.
Not waiting for life to calm down before you decide to show up differently.
And this week, I want to share something that’s been on my mind, because change rarely comes from a big, complex plan or a dramatic breakthrough.
It usually originates from a powerful question that causes a perspective shift.
Years ago, a client shared a story with me that I’ve never forgotten.
She was on a cruise with a group of girlfriends. At the time, she felt restless and unfulfilled. On paper, her life looked good. She had a stable career, steady income, and plenty of reasons to stay exactly where she was.
But underneath it all, she felt a persistent longing toward something more.
A passion project . . . A calling she’d been quietly ignoring because it felt risky, impractical, and “irresponsible.”
One night, as she told her friend about her idea, her friend asked a question that rocked her:
“What would you do if you knew you only had three years to live?”
She began answering carefully at first . . . and then honestly.
Then, her friend followed up with the question that changed everything:
“How do you know you don’t?”
That question landed in her body, not just her mind.
Because suddenly, the fear shifted.
This wasn’t about reckless action.
This was about truth.
She realized that if time were truly precious, she wouldn’t keep postponing the thing she knew would truly make her her feel alive. She wouldn’t keep telling herself “someday” while pouring all her energy into what felt safe and mundane.
That was the moment she decided to stop waiting.
She didn’t have every detail figured out. She didn’t feel “ready.” But she committed wholeheartedly to bringing her idea to life.
So now, I’m wondering: is there a change you’ve been considering but have put off forweeks, months, or years?
What if you asked yourself a question, the kind that cuts through fear, obligation, and overthinking and widens your perspective?
A question like:
• What keeps tugging at me, no matter how much I try to ignore it?
• If I don’t do this now, when will I?
• If time isn’t guaranteed, what feels too important to keep postponing?
• What will life be like years from now if I don’t act on this dream?
• What if it works out better than I ever imagined?
Last week, I asked you what action step would change the tone of your December.
This week, I’ll ask you this:
What would you choose if you stopped assuming you have unlimited time?
You don’t need a crisis to give yourself permission.
You don’t need certainty before you begin.
You don’t need January.
Sometimes, all it takes is one powerful question and the willingness to answer it honestly.
Because a different life doesn’t begin someday.
It begins the moment you commit.
