Life Coaching Tip: As you up-level your life, feelings of overwhelm and fear are often a natural part of the process. The strong desire to turn back from a goal the minute it gets challenging can be hard to resist. As your coach, I will hold your belief for you during those times, and I won’t let you talk yourself out of your dream!
_____________
“Nice try, but I’m not buying it.”
That’s what I said to my client, Jess, after she told me she changed her mind about her goal to open a new business.
“I just don’t think this is the right time, especially since my daughter is so young. Maybe things haven’t fallen into place because I’m supposed to wait and spend more time at home with her. I mean, there will be time to open a business once she is older,” she said.
I had been her coach for a few months by this time, and I knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that Jess was an entrepreneur at heart. She had dreamt of this business for years, and she had a beautiful vision of her mission and the inspiring, cheerful atmosphere she wanted to create for her staff and customers.
But as life goes, there were some bumps in the road.
The location Jess thought she really, really wanted wasn’t working out, and the bank wasn’t cooperating, It all felt overwhelming.
“I just think the universe is telling me this isn’t the right time,” she said. And I know she believed it.
But I didn’t.
As her coach, I knew the overwhelm and fear Jess was feeling was all part of the process. And I wasn’t going to let her talk herself out of her dream!
You see, I hold my client’s dreams for them, especially when their brain starts to scare the crap out of them, and they want to run for the hills!
This is one of the reasons why working with a supportive coach can be so powerful.
When we begin to up-level, it’s only natural that the people closest to us might buy into our fears and even add worries of their own into the mix.
But I’m not afraid for my clients. I’m excited for them! I believe in their ability to use their gifts and talents to accomplish their dreams.
I’m able to hold perspective and reassure my clients that what they are wanting to create is more than possible. There are always options. There’s always a way.
I help my clients FINALLY get the results they’re wanting, sometimes after years of procrastinating and feeling stuck.
And this desire to turn back from a goal the minute it gets challenging isn’t just about “big” aspirations like opening a business. Oh no, not at all.
I’ve worked with clients who have told me they’ve changed their minds about weight-loss, career exploration, new love, and exercise goals, to name a few.
They’ve said things like…
I really didn’t mind my job this week, so maybe I don’t need to change careers after all.
I’ve decided to accept myself at the weight I am and work on self-love. I think I was just feeling pressured by our unhealthy, diet culture.
I thought about it, and I just don’t feel ready for a relationship. I’ve lived alone for so long that at this point, a change might be too hard.
I haven’t taken much action on my goals for the past two weeks, so maybe I don’t want ____ after all.
I’ve been thinking about it, and I’m not sure my efforts will make a big enough impact on the planet. I’m not sure it’s worth moving forward.
I could go on and on, but you get the point.
Of course, I didn’t buy into their limiting stories, no matter how insistent they were to back-peddle.
And as for my client who wanted to “wait a few years” before opening her business, she didn’t.
Instead, we worked together to strengthen her belief in herself and her dream.
That was about three years ago.
So, what happened?
Well, Jess found a different location for her business, a better one that couldn’t have been more perfect! And she opened shortly thereafter and is now thriving. She even expanded her service-based business DURING THE PANDEMIC!
And her daughter did not “suffer” because of her mother’s ambitions. No, quite the contrary! Her parents made her a part of the business from the start, and she’s had the unique opportunity to help her mom bring her innovative ideas to life!
Her daughter witnessed her mom create her dream.
I can think of no greater gift to give a child.
And so, if you are working on a goal right now that has become challenging, I want to encourage you not to talk yourself out of it.
Obstacles are just part of life, and there are always solutions ready to be discovered.
You can do hard things.
Keep moving forward.
Seriously sister, you were meant to shine!
