Life Coaching Tip: When you get very clear and laser focused in on your goals, your subconscious mind will start letting into your awareness anything that will help you achieve success. You will notice resources that were always there but previously went unnoticed. What you focus on, you create more of – for reals!…
Whenever I see or hear a cardinal on my morning walk, it reminds me of my late mother, Carmella. Shortly after she passed away, many years ago, I decided the cardinal was a sign she was with me, and this felt comforting – especially since there are so many cardinals in Northeast Ohio.
If I’m worried about something and I see or hear a cardinal, I say, “Oh, hi Mom, really glad you’re here with me this morning!” She always seems to appear just when I need her most.
And then when my dad, Alan, passed away last year, I decided the crow would be his bird. He was known to do a crow call anytime he saw one, often to my embarrassment, and sounded EXACTLY like the real thing. So, it just made sense to associate his presence with a crow.
And now, just like with my mom and cardinals, whenever I see or hear a crow, I think, “Hey there Dad, thanks for looking out for me!”
Strangely, I see and hear a lot of crows these days. And when I see them with cardinals, I get all warm and fuzzy inside. It’s spiritually reassuring to feel the presence of my parents, especially on those days when I miss their counsel and love.
And birds aren’t the only synchronicities that I am acutely aware of. Numbers also catch my attention, especially when they match my birthday or repeat. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve noticed gas prices at $3.29 (my birthday) or how often I catch the clock at exactly 3:33 or 5:55.
Has this ever happened to you?
Do you notice “signs” or numbers that have significance to you more often than what might seem typical?
If so, I’m not surprised.
Truth is, you notice what’s important to you.
And, what you focus on, you create more of.
This is a fact.
I can’t emphasize this enough.
Because while it’s spiritually centered for me, it’s also science.
It’s how your brain works.
Let me explain…
At any moment, millions of bits of information are streaming into your brain, all of which you couldn’t possibly attend to at one time.
And so, your brain’s reticular activating system (RAS) sorts and filters them out, allowing into your awareness only those signals that can help you stay safe, and anything that matches your thoughts and beliefs about yourself, others, and the world. It lets in what’s significant to you and discards the rest.
This is why it’s key for you to gain insight into your thoughts and beliefs that are working for you and the ones that are keeping you stuck. You must intentionally begin focusing on what aligns with what you want for your life.
When you get very clear about your goals, and laser focus in on them, this programs your brain’s RAS to start letting into your awareness anything that will help you achieve success. Your RAS will notice resources that were always there but previously went unnoticed.
It activates your subconscious mind to create solutions for getting what you want. You’ll find yourself having fresh, innovated ideas and feeling a new level of inspiration to do things that get you closer to achieving your goals.
Allow me to offer an example…
***Let’s say you have a great idea for a startup, but you also have a long-held belief that you are “not the kind of person” who can get a new business off the ground due to a lack of business savvy and financial resources.
Well then, even when a close friend or colleague, who has a business background, expresses interest in partnering with you or investing in your startup, your RAS will quickly dismiss the idea, not taking it seriously, or more likely, not even hearing it at all.
***Now let’s say you have a great idea for a startup, and you have the belief that you ARE the kind of person who can do anything she sets her mind to. You get very clear on the specifics of your goal, and you spend some time visualizing your startup taking off.
Well then, your RAS recognizes the importance of this goal and lets into your awareness anything that will help you achieve success.
You might think about that former colleague, who has a business background, and is always looking for new ventures and reach out to her.
Or you might notice a course at the local community college that will teach you how to write a business plan and sign up. Then, at this class, the instructor may offer some fresh ideas about funding sources that you had never thought of before.
This will get you all stoked and excited about all the possibilities, your momentum will kick in, and you will be on it like a monkey on a cupcake! That startup will be up and running in no time!
You get the idea.
And so, here’s a playful game I encourage you to try…
For the next week, pick an item to focus on. Just something simple, like a squirrel or the number 7. Then take about five minutes each morning and evening to focus on and visualize that item. Finally, take note at how many times during the week, as you go about your day, your item comes into your awareness.
A squirrel might pop into your news feed or be enjoying an acorn on your deck, or your sister may tell you a funny squirrel story.
Or you may notice the cozy socks you’ve been eyeballing at Target have been reduced to $7.77 or there are seven squirrels on your deck enjoying acorns (yikes!), or you just hit the winning “pick 3” lottery drawing with 777 (yes!).
Be light with it and have fun.
I want you to experience first-hand: What you focus on, you create more of… for reals!
You are a powerful manifestor and have all the tools you need right now to succeed at anything you decide is important to you.
Okay, so after you’ve had some fun with this game, replace your object with your big dream.
Yes, get your RAS focused on your goals!
I mean, it’s great to take in beautiful cardinals, crows, and squirrels, for sure. But there’s much more to all this.
You, my friend, have work to do because you are meant to shine!
